I bought this as my first board, based on the reccomendations of friends. I have size 11 feet, so the width is great to avoid overhang. So far I've taken it through powder, slush, ice, etc, and it's been a great ride to learn on. In comparison to friend's boards I've ridden, it's incredibly stable at speed, and the edge just HOLDS. My friends don't understand why I have no fear of ice :). I have yet to have anyone out glide me on the hill as well. Maybe it's no match for a real race board, but it seems to be faster than anyone else. When I get on friend's decks speed scares me, the boards dance on the flats and chatter on slopes. The only ride that seems close is a buddy's burton cascade 163. The donek is smooth and confidence inspiring. The only downsides I'd list in comparison is that it seems to require more technique and effort to turn it quickly in the bumps. The topsheet seems to scratch easily as well. So far I wouldn't trade it for anything.
