I'm a big, agressive rider who's been doing the big mountain thing for many years. I've ridden Canyons, Floaters, Fat Bobs, and many other decks (I have 10). None of them is as fun to ride as the Legacy.
I've primarily ridden a Burton Canyon 162 since late 2000. It was a great board for my size 12 feet. After that deck began to wear, I looked at the newer Canyons, but found that they had lost all their stiffness (Burton selling out their bigger riders again). I hate floppy boards, so I started searching for a new arrow for my quiver. I encountered the Legacy at a shop in San Francisco, and immediately knew that I had to have it. It wasn't cheap, so I decided to shop around. I couldn't find it for less than $430, and ended up ordering it from a shop in Santa Rosa.
My first day riding the Legacy was a rainy, icy day in Whistler. I really didn't get a feel for the thing until the temps dropped the next day and we got some fresh. I loved the way the thing initiates a turn on cue. The only downside is the fact that you can't place the bindings as far back as you can on other big mtn decks, but I've gotten used to that. Now I float through pow with ease.
PROS:
- Good width. Not wide enough to impede turns, but not narrow enough to cause drag with size 12 boots.
- Good stiffness. I have very strong legs and prefer a deck that stands up to me.
- Spins very well.
- Very fast, if kept waxed.
CONS:
- Price: it's a handmade deck, so I guess it's expected.
- Stance mountings: I wish they had one more set of bolts toward the rear, but I eventually got used to it.
