I got to try my new ride this weekend at Mammoth and came away very impressed! This was my best first day on a new deck ever. The Decade shreds the groomers, the old pow, the crud, chopped up snow, whatever. I weigh 190 and the amount of flex and pop, feedback, and stiffness were well balanced for the way I like to ride. (Carve hard.) I was very surprised by how easy it initiated turns. The deck totally ate up a black diamond mogul field (Spook at the top of Goldrush express). I would be thinking about where I wanted to lay my next line, and it was already turning.
The board is very solid at speed, but gives you more feedback than a more damped board such as a Premier. You kind of have to learn to ignore some of the information the board keeps sending you in the chopped up stuff and have confidence that the board will track. (It does!!) Some of the big bowls were in good condition, and I was flying faster than I’ve ever gone on a deck before (helmet time?!)
This board has monster snap and pop, and will Ollie at will. I ended up facing a log with marginal snow cover at speed on one of the blue/blacks, and was able to float over it by Ollie’ing at speed with no bump to pop off of.
The end of the day Saturday we got ice, and the board tracked well there too. I haven’t messed with the edges yet so they’re still at the factory 0* and 90*, I just detuned the nose from the effective edge forward. (I plan on detuning the tail before my next session.)
I put 7 hours a day on the deck, and I have a lot more to learn about this ride in different conditions, but I’m tired, sore, and happy! If you like to ride hard, and get pushed by a new board, the Decade might be worth trying.
I still have yet to try the board in the park, but judging by it's responsiveness I think it'll be great. Lighter than any of the other Never Summer Freeride boards. I think the tag "Aggresive Freeride" board that Never Summer labels the Decade with is spot on.
