Learning to snowboard strikes me as simple enough, though like so many other sports may take me some great measure of time to master. I began my learning experience on some model of Salomon board, in a 151, and I found myself falling quite a bit. When I decided on buying a used '02 Burton Clash 157 (at a "bargain" price), I found that I invested in a solid board for learners, and still good enough to hang in with the intermediate boarders that taught me. It's hella fast (once the apprehension of speed is overcome), extremely forgiving with just the right amount of flex for someone of my girth. Like the other boards I've ridden in the same price range, there is quite a bit of chattering on packed ice conditions. Other than that, I think the Clash will serve me well for the remainder of the season, and with the cash I saved, I can use it on lift tickets and booze.
