At first I was skeptical. Avalanche has long been very respected in the industry because of the perfect weight and durability of their boards. Tom Burt and Chris Sanders were among the firsts in the industry along with Tom Sims and Jake Burton, although Jake gets all the credit through commercialization. Avalanche was their baby but has gone under as we know it, now under the umbrella of A-Sport. A-Sport!? The 2001's are their first attempt, take notice of the new, watered down logo [don't change what works people]. With that said, I have been playing around on this board this season after having ridden about 50 other boards from various companies through my years. It's actually a pretty good board, better than I'd expected...although, still not the original quality.WEIGHT: It's light enough weight to pop the big ollie's with no problem, decent enough bend to spring you. There's always that fine line between too much flex and too much stiffness, this finds the middle ground pretty well.SHAPE: The side cut is good, lets you lay down nice carves but the tail has a little too much play. You can easily loose control at high speeds over bumps but keep in mind, this isn't a race board, rather, freestyle. In the pipe it handles very well, better than I'd expected. The nose and tail need a little more lift though, any powder buries it. GRAPHICS: Below average. I don't know what happened but Avalanche is also known for it's outragous graphics and contantly pushing the limit of what is "acceptable". The new management must feel that conservate will meet the lowest common denominator. Forget that right now.DURABILITY: Mediocre. I'm glad there is a lifetime warranty because I'm already chipping it with zero jibbing, just regular piping and freeriding. Time will tell.OVERALL: Dollar for dollar, I'd say check it out. There are better out there but this is good. It's not too expensive to worry about every scratch but not made cheaply were you cannot trust it.
