I bought the Magnum a couple off months ago and have ridden it about 10 times, mostly on (icy) hardpack and I have to say I'm very pleased with it. Although it 'only' has an extruded base it is really fast once you give it a decent wax job. It is also extremely stable at high speeds. You don't have to worry about loosing control if you aim it straight down the mountain, there's no chatter, the board is not nervous and will not catch an edge if you ride it flat on the base. Furthermore the base is strong and scratchresistent. Turning is easy and goes fluently. And for the cons: the topsheet chips very easily. After ten days my board looks worse than many rentals out there. I don't consider this a real problem since it is only cosmetic. The other thing if had trouble with is the edgehold, on icy hardpack I wish it would be better. But I should add that I have not sharpened the edges myself, the shop did it for me, and I feel they could have done better. Also, I'm on the lower end of the weightrange (Nitro indicates a minimum weight of 75 kgs for the 171, but IMHO that's not enough) which won't help either. All in all a very nice board and definitely worth the money. If you have size 13 or bigger feet and you are lokking for an avordable and stable freeride board than you should consider the Magnum.
