This was my first board purchase and have been very happy with it so far. It is definately on the soft side and would probably not be good for someone too advanced. It's a good beginner or intermediate board as it's fairly forgiving. It turns well and performed well in the powder last week. The top sheet does howver seem a little easy to scratch and ding.I see this board lasting maybe two seasons before I will want something a little more advanced (probably skinnier and stiffer). I was also considering the Ride Tempest and Profile and didn't get the tempest as it seemed too wide (I wear a 9 1/2) and I wasn't a big fan of the graphics. The Profile seemed like a good board from what I've read and what I've heard others say, but probably a bit advanced for a beginner.Overall I would recommend the Control for the beginner or intermediate rider, especially if you can get it at a good price.
