This board has never done me wrong. It's stiff enough to track across any ice that catches me by surprise, and has saved my butt many times (literally). It also absorbs bumps and dips MUCH better than shorter boards, letting me keep the board on the snow and carving at speed, rather than skidding and washing out. Again, saving me much pain. And the 178 FLIES in GS-freeride mode. If you think long boards are too hard to turn, think again - when you set this board into a carve, it does all the work for you. Want to turn sharper? Just pound some more pressure down into the board and it take cares of everything. And the beauty of a long board is never more apparent than on the flats, where I routinely carry my speed past almost every skiier on the section. Back East in NY and VT, there are some real bummer flats that used to kill me on my 155. Now I just glide on through! This board rocks, and so impressed am I with long boards that my current "short" board is a 166. So try a long baord - you won't look back.
