I finally got to the slopes today....I'm, 6'7", 275 lb with a size 15 foot. Obviously, I need a larger, wider board and I prefer free-riding and running through the trees. The pipe and park aren't for me. I'm in Southern California, which basically means I'm mostly on man-made snow, and for now I can't run the trees. My previous experience is on a K2 Trucker 163 which I have been riding for 3 seasons (and a rental the season before). In talking to Sean at Donek, we decided that the Sasquatch 170 would be the best board for me as I felt the 163 was a bit short and I should be in a 169 right now.To give some insights to the size differences...the Donek Sasquatch 170 is 7 cm longer, has 10 cm more effective edge, a sidecut radius that is 150 cm more, and is MUCH stiffer than the k2 Trucker 163. The waist on the Donek is .4 cm narrower than the Trucker, but I couldn't tell riding. As soon as I strapped my front foot in, and headed for the lift, I could feel the difference. The Donek had MUCH more control, even in the "half-strapped in" situation. Exiting the lift and gliding towards the hill to strap in was SUPER smooth. As soon as I started down the hill, the board felt better than the K2. It carved extra smooth. Edge changing was a breeze. I felt more confident with carving, and obviously speed. On the flat transisitions, I could lay the board totally flat, and can't remember catching even a slight edge. The one thing that I really noticed to be different was on my heelside edge. On the K2, a good amount of bounce occurred, which often put me on my rump. The Donek held the edge and rarely skipped. I had taken my Trucker with me to do a comparative run at the end of the day, but a hard fall sent me home early.I'm super happy with the board. I would recommend a Donek to anyone who doesn't want to "pay the big guy" and wants a board of top quality, construction, and ride.Jeff Nortonsandman468@aol.com
